Q: Che cosa significa Perhaps those cycles of colonization, adaptation, and population explosion were what selected for the Great Leap Forward, which then diffused back westward to Eurasia and Africa.?
A: You're right that it's not written well. If they eliminated the "for" (what selected the) it would probably work better... BUT

This is hard to edit because I'm not familiar enough with The Great Leap Forward, (to know the best way to write this). BUT the writing is pretty bad.

Tangent:
It reminds me of a college student trying to write "fancily", to sound more intellectual. It's a problem in academia. It sort of spreads in a group-affirming plague of "look how smart we are" for using fancy words that need decoding. (You might think I'm joking but this is a real problem, a few professors wrote fake articles with a lot of fancy words to see if they could get published, even though the words actually didn't mean anything, and they were repeatedly published!) Bottom line, sometimes it's not that you don't understand because you don't know enough English, but that no one understands unless they're faking it.
😲

Ok, sorry,.. Diffused = spread over a large area. So basically it spread westward (geographically, to places to the west of China).

A: likely to ~ = ~ will probably happen

It is likely to survive minor cycles of drought and even fire = If there is a lack of rain or a fire, it will probably survive
Q: Che cosa significa cycle off?
A: It's not a common way of saying it, though. I would say, "I burned a lot of calories on the bike..."

Parole simili a "Cycle" e le sue differenze

Q: Qual è la differenza tra cycle e ride a bike ?
A: “Cycle a bike” is not really the correct expression. “Cycling” is usually standalone and used on its own.

When a person says “I like cycling”, it is generally understood that they like riding bicycles.

If a person says “I like riding”, it could also mean they like riding horses or motorbikes.

The same goes for “riding a bike”, because “bike” can refer to both a bicycle and a motorbike.
Q: Qual è la differenza tra cycle e circulate ?
A: I will talk only about their uses as verbs.
Cycle means to go in a loop or to cause to go in a loop. (a cycle)
"The game cycles through 3 states."
"Nitrogen cycles through the different organisms in the ecosystem."
"I cycled the slideshow's pictures as the guests watched."

Circulate means to move in a closed system, or to move between people (to put into circulation).
"blood circulates through the body."
"Air is circulated through the vents."
"I heard rumors were circulating about that."
"Let's circulate a pamphlet about it."
Q: Qual è la differenza tra cycle e circle e and very appreciate if u can give some examples ?
A: A cycle is a series of events or years that repeat; in other words, a period of time in which circumstances or occurrences repeat themselves. A circle is a shape.

The change of seasons in a year is an example of a cycle; it repeats every year.
Q: Qual è la differenza tra cycle e circle e loop ?
A: Cycle suggests a passage of time or function. "Forming a cocoon is part of a caterpillar's life cycle".

Circle is a shape (obviously) but can also be used metaphorically to suggest repeated, frustrating actions: "I feel like we're going round in circles!"

Loop is similar to circle in describing a shape, but can also be a verb to suggest coming back on yourself or itself: "loop the rope around the branch" or "loop back around the roundabout, then take your next left".

Altre domande riguardo "Cycle"

Q: Why do we create this cycle of hate, breeding more fear?

How does "breeding more fear"
add to the meaning ?

I think

Why do we create this cycle of hate,
at the same time
breeding more fear?

😅
A: I believe the "cycle of hate" is supposed to be contributing to the "breeding of fear". To say "at the same time" in that way makes the relationship between the two not seem like a cause and effect type of relationship. That's my take on it!
Q: Why do we create this cycle of hate, breeding more fear?

How does "breeding more fear"
add to the meaning ?😅 If it is possible
Please ,say it in another way
A: To me, it sounds like a way to emphasize the emotional aspect, in order to appeal to the reader's feelings. "breeding" is a negative word (except when used literally like with dogs and animals)

"Why do we create this cycle of hate, polluting our the world with more fear?"

"Breeding" here also implies that it's kind of a downward spiral.

Why do we create this cycle of hate which only creates more fear? (instead of reducing fear)
Q: Why do we create this cycle of hate, breeding more fear?

How does "breeding more fear"
add to the meaning ?😅
A: because "breeding more fear" is the outcome of the "creation of the cycle of hate"
Q: To reduce the cycle time of the production process, we have to eliminate any wasted movement of the robot.
sembra naturale?
A: Hm... I'm not too sure about what you mean by "eliminate any wasted movement of the robot."

Ah, do you mean that you have to remove movements not used by the robot to make the production process shorter? 🙂

If this is what you meant, then the edited sentence should be: "To reduce the cycle time of the production process, we have to eliminate/remove any unnecessary movements performed by the robot."
>>> I reworded the bottom part to make it sound natural and more straightforward. "Remove" is another good option to use other than "eliminate." "Wasted" has a more negative connotation, so "unnecessary" is used instead. It's more neutral.

I hope this helps! 😊
Q: Did you cycle there? sembra naturale?
A: American English doesn't frequently use the word 'cycle.' We'd say, "Did you ride there?" or "Did you ride your bike there?"
