A: It means to "look like" something in a visual sense. Similar to how ～みたい works in Japanese but not used in a similar way.

Eg. My friend bears a likeness to John Doe.

This means my friend looks a lot like John Doe.

"The brothers did look strikingly similar. The likeness was uncanny!"

A: Having a “likeness” is the same as having a “resemblance,” as it’s something recognizable in the features of the subject. Similarity is comparing a subject to something else.

Example:
“She has the likeness of her mother.”

“She resembles her mother.”

“Her and her mother look similar.”

All have about the same meaning.

A: I think we use ‘likeness” most often to refer to physical appearance. The likeness of a president appears on our money. The likeness of the twins is really amazing. I think similarity can mean the same thing, and also other attributes. The similarity of my three sons is their musical ability. (Or their senses of humor, or their physical build)
