A: I answered a previous question like this in Japanese, but as there is a metaphor, I wonder if that is a good thing.

However, there are two words here that don't match up any of the meaning given in my Japanese dictionary. 'institution' here means something that has lasted a long time, is applied widely, and has become a widely known thing. This is similar to 'institution' as in a school, university, hospital, but has a more abstract (抽象的)
meaning.

Here 'works' means that it does what it is supposed to do. E.g. we say that a pen works if we can write with it properly. With a family, 'works' is again more abstract. Families do what they are supposed to do, which is people in the family supporting each other, loving each other, etc.

The: 'The only rock I know that stays steady' is literally 私の知っている唯一の安定する岩は、but this is a metaphor; it is not to be taken literally.

This creates the image of an 岩 that will 安定する, どうなるも動かない。This is compared to the family, an institution that has lasted since the dawn of humanity (and before), no matter how everything else has changed. And this family works, it does what it is supposed to, it is beneficial.

Maybe:

私の知っている唯一の安定する岩は、唯一の知っている効果のある伝統は、家族です。

But, here I think that 効果のある is too physical, not abstract enough, and 伝統 means something more like 'tradition' or 'convention', which doesn't quite match 'institution'.

でも、これはできるだけです。ちゃんと訳せなくて、ごめんね。

A: "this stays here" is also used when someone wants to tell another person something but need it to be kept a secret. Ex: I will tell you but this stays here, no one else can know, okay?

A: It's quite good, except for the last sentence. It's possible you confused "track" with "truck" since the katakana for both are トラック. The appropriate phrase here would be to "get back on track".

"He always eats too much and stays up late playing games every night. He also always oversleeps and pretends to be sick to skip work. His life is a big mess. He needs to get back on track and lead an orderly life."
