What does 「ひいている」 mean from the sentence 「かぜをひいている」

I know it has to do with having a cold, but I don't know the base word of it.
---
Also, what is すいている in the sentence おなかがすいているので、たくさん食べられます。 mean?

I catch a cold. 風邪をひく
I have a cold. 風邪をひいている。(状態を表している)
難しく考えないで、そのまま全部ひっくるめて覚えた方が良いと思います。
だって、言語学者になる訳じゃないだから。私が英語の先生に言われた言葉です。
Since I am starving, I think I can eat a lot. I am hungry. (空腹という状態を表している)

Just gotta remember the rules for making the て-forms of う-verbs:

う/つ/る -> って
む/ぶ/ぬ -> んで
く -> いて
ぐ -> いで
す -> して
