Honestly, it can be very hard. I’ve experienced stuff like that before, went to the cops and everything, I ended up not getting anything out of it because there was “no evidence” and because the guy was defended by my boss 🤷🏻♀️

This varies to the type of sexual harassment. Most forms do not lead to prosecution like groping, forced kiss, sexual slurs, etc. I think it is technically illegal in some states, but rarely enforced if the victim is over the age of 18. The only form that does reach prosecution is when sex is forced upon a party (aka rape) and it can be proven (he said she said situations are rarely prosecuted).
As for culturally, the majority of businesses in modern day America strongly frown upon sexual harassment. If a superior or coworker in the workplace atmosphere sexually harasses you (assuming you’re not working in a private business), you can report it to the cooperation to investigate and potentially remove them from their position. Of course this does not always occur (some places in the US and some businesses you could claim this never occurs), but it is more common than a legal prosecution.

@b00a01125 meh, I ended up quitting that job. It was too awkward being around them. But I do see (sometimes) more cases when it involves a child or someone under the age of 18. So, I guess it varies on people. I just know I’m never taking my problems to the cops anymore 😂🙅🏻♀️ it was humiliating going over the story and a waste of time to be honest 🤷🏻♀️

@kat_woodman Your answer is so clear that I really learn a lesson. In Taiwan if we suffer from sexual harassment, we also launch an investigation in the company. But if we couldn't get sufficient remedies from it, we are likely to take a legal action. Of course in this way we should have enough evidence, or we have difficulty getting redressed.

It’s very case by case in the US, but generally you’ll get no where in a judicial court in the US. You just have to hope your corporation is good about it. I know many people who’ve been harassed and couldn’t get the business they work at to do anything about it, but I also know a few people who were able to fix the situation through their corporation. I’ve never met someone who could get it fixed through the courts.

@maruchan94 OMG I'm so sorry about that, and I am also glad that you leave that terrible place. I heard from my friends that they feel very disgusting and uncomfortable when facing sexual harassments. In some extreme cases, they even say that at that time, 'their bodies are deprived'. I feel so sad when I hear that.

@kat_woodman So you mean most of people who have suffered from sexual harassment prefer to resolve the problems in corporations than in the courts? For what reason? For the protection of reputation? Or for they don't have so much money to bring a case?

They don’t bring it to the courts because the case will be dismissed immediately even if somehow it actually makes it past police investigation to the court system. If it happens interpersonally and outside of the workforce, there’s really not much you can do. Only when it happens in the workforce can you really do much.

For the most part, yep. That’s why sexual harassment is a common talking point in US media. There’s problems with it in the US.
