Speaking French or Italian is seen as really cool. Speaking Spanish is seen as useful. Speaking Chinese is seen as entrepreneurial (potentially). No foreign language is prestigious per se. Some of the stereotypes about America being monolingual (apart from immigrants and their families) are true.
