Started out as a Pagan holiday. Was meant to ward off evil spirits during the harvest, or something like that.
Today, it doesn't really have any purpose other than fun.

It is the night before All Saints Day. But I don't know much beyond that.

It has roots in a few pre-Christian religions. Something along the lines of people dressing as evil spirits to confuse actual evil spirits, so they don't linger around the home/people.
Now, it's mostly a commercial holiday, so candy companies can make money.

It has Celtic and Irish roots, and is generally understood to have come from Irish immigrants moving to the US.
As for it's existence it's just fun, and it's not a holiday anyone gets off of work so employers are unlikely to complain.

Halloween today is just an ordinary holiday about spookness and candy for kids but it originated from an ancient religion holiday called All Hallow's Eve in which was before the harvest season. people were worried that spirits of the dead would destroy their crops so they disguised themselves as monsters to scare them away. or at least that's what I heard. there may be other legends and stories about it and how the holiday was eventually changed to Halloween

hallow1is basicly, i guess we can say a holiday for the devil or for the evil spirit. its kind of like how in the mexican culture when they celebrate a day of someone's death.

@gurinuuumidori its not a devil worshiping holiday it was literally a series of traditions that Celts performed in order to have good harvests and live a long, happy life

@mxkael im not saying that its exactly a devil worshipping holiday😒 what i mean is kind of hard to explain, but let me say that, it's like how people think that jesus birthday is on Christmas cuz its all sbout doing good things and giving to others. Some people say that halloween is the devil's birthday because its all about scary, and bad pranks etc.

@gurinuuumidori: but Christmas is literally the day Jesus was born. Of course the day isn't exact but the christian holiday is meant for the celebration of Christ's birthday.
