Hi @Miki_J
A together person is a person whom is considered to be emotionally and mentally stable.
‘The person has their act together’ is another way to describe such a person.
It can also apply to other social markers, such as having a good education and securing a good job, being married and responsibly raising a family, without being an alcoholic or abusive. Such a person would be considered a together person.
I hope this helps you to understand 👍

I use the ‘👋’ emotion when greeting here on HiNative. For me it is a hand waving hello, a normal thing we do in Canada.
My question is for Japanese people is it a waving hand or could it be considered a slapping hand, like a slap to the face?
I stopped using it when answering Japanese people because I wasn’t sure and of course I don’t want to offend anyone!

The 👋 emoticon is used when we say either "hello" or "bye" .
So I never think it could be considered a slapping hand!😉
But then again, I'd like to add this,
it's used much more often when we say like "bye now" "see you later" than " Hi",
because when we are about to leave our friends, we often wave our hands saying "bye" but when we just met our friends, we don't wave our hands and just say "hi".
I hope that helps!

Ok, that makes total sense now.
So while I thought I was saying hi I was actually waving goodbye..😬
Can you recommend another / better emoticon that would suit saying hello??
I like to acknowledge other people on HiNative, I think it’s appropriate.
I often read so many lazy answers from other people 😑

For some Japanese people who are not really used to have a convo or different culture with non-Japanese people or read a message written in English, it could be possible to be considered "good bye" only, but I personally think they do recognise the meaning because Japanese who are on hi nativ are English learners.
Most Japanese use the emoticons such as '😀😊 ^_^ (^ ^) (^-^) (^○^) '
I would text to my friends like,
"はろー😉げんきにしてる?"
one thing, we even hardly ever say "こんにちは" among friends who are in the same generation.

@Miki_J thank you, great answer ㅅ.ㅅ
Now you are teaching me Japanese 😊
I lived in Japan when I was very young.
My father was a musician and friends with Shinichi Suzuki, the founder of Suzuki method violin teaching.
I lived in the city of Matsumoto. 🏔
I don’t remember any of my time there, I was too young - but I do want to visit Japan in my lifetime..

oh my gosh! I didn't know you were living in here! It's lovely!
Your dad is amazing!
I have heard of the Suzuki method, which is very well-known as a fantastic method of violin teaching especially for very young children.
Did you live in Nagano prefecture?
I sometimes go there to do snowboarding!
You do want to visit Japan sometime and I am dying to move to Toronto...🥺

I'm going to have to look for a job in Toronto. I'll search first. It's quite easy to find a job and earn enough money in Tokyo but I'm not sure a foreigner like me will be able to get a job in Canada..🧐

Lol, I’m not sure exactly where I was living because I was so young - like you mentioned, the Suzuki method is for children. My father wanted my brother, sister and myself to learn violin in Japan with Suzuki!
Cool - you are brave to be a snowboarder 🏂
It looks scary!
Consider planning a visit to Toronto, I recommend in summer time, for many reasons. You could do some investigation as to relocating for work and get a feel for the city.
Do you use any other messaging apps? I have KakaoTalk, from when I worked in Korea a few years ago., it would be great to be able to chat with you on a different platform from HiNative. I understand if you aren’t interested though.

What type of work are you able to do, if I may ask?
Toronto is a city of over 3 million people and there are so many different opportunities there.

Thank you for the recommendation!
I'm afraid we don't use Kakaotalk here. We only use LINE with almost all people:) Do you have one?
