Literally. America is just filled with fast food restaurants.
I think Steak ‘n’ Shake and In-n-out are pretty good, but, you know, people have different taste.

You'll never lack options for fast food here, unless you go to some backwater southern town where your only options are Subway and Dairy Queen for some reason. But you can usually find local places in those areas that are pretty good and still cheap.
If you like burgers, Steak & Shake and Culver's are great, but a bit more expensive than McDonald's or Burger King. The best burger you'll get for a dollar in my experience is at Rally's/Checkers.
You might hear about White Castle and how cheap their burgers are, but they're also really small. I like them but they're different, and not actually that great of a value.
If you like fried chicken, Lee's Famous Recipe and Popeye's are better than KFC, but not as common. KFC is still fine, though, usually.
I like Taco Bell. It's not "authentic Mexican cooking," but it's fine for what it is. Del Taco is better but not as common, at least in the East. The thing is, depending on where you go, you might find a more authentic Mexican place that's still really cheap and way better, if you ask around, so keep that in mind I guess.
