Both are pretty much the same.

This meal contains apples and bananas.
This meal includes apples and bananas.
This meal has apples and bananas.

But if you are unsure just use, "have".
When you are talking about people don't use contain or include, use "have".

For "include" you could use it in:

I include my friends in my activities. (Though this sounds a bit formal).
Or for recipes, like, "This recipe includes flour, eggs, and sugar."

For "contain", it pretty much always revolves around something that holds something or something that you can put stuff into. Boxes "contain" goods and things that need to be delivered.

You would also use "contain" for ingredients lists on the sides of packaging, like, "This contains: nuts, eggs, milk, etc."

For "have/has/had", these are the most basic terms you can use for anything if you can remember the other word. So if you forget to say "contain" or "include" for something, you can always just use "has".

Examples:
"This has eggs in it." (You would NOT replace "has" with "includes" here, only unless you specified that the RECIPE "includes" eggs).
"I have friends."
"I had a great time together."
"She has a skirt on. (You could also say, "She is wearing a skirt.")
"They have good shoes."
"We had soup for dinner."


"Possess" is ANOTHER word that has similar meanings, related to someone's ownership most of the time. Though it can also related to ghosts "possessing" a body.
