A « mot » ("word") is the syntactical element of a sentence. Add multiple letters together, you obtains a « mot » (which probably doesn't exist, but hey, try and try again :-P ) A « parole » is what is spoken. If you say something, what you'll have said are « paroles ». That's why talking about song, the French for lyrics is « paroles. » But the meaning is more general. If some dude is speaking, and some bloke interrupts him, we say « il lui a coupé la parole » (the bloke cut the dude short). A last meaning in French for « parole » is "promise", like in "I give you my word": « Je t'en donne ma parole. », or, "release on parole" : « libérer sur parole »
