Qual è la differenza tra Me disculpo por no haber contestado antes. e Siento no haberle contestado antes a su correo. ?Sentiti libero di rispondere con un esempio.

Which is better? The context is that I have only just seen an email that was sent a month ago, so I want to apologise. It doesn't need to be particularly formal, but it should be polite because I am not familiar with this person. Thanks.

In the example you are giving me, there is not like too much difference, but it depend if the person you are writing to, if it’s young or older and the formality on the message.

If it’s formal, you can use “Siento no HABERLE contestado antes a su correo”

Not too formal and if it’s a young person: “Siento no HABERTE contestado antes el correo”

I have never met this person so I don't know if she is young/old. She works at an organisation with which I am volunteering. So do you think I need to be formal?

You can avoid referring to the person using “Siento mucho no haber contestado el correo” this answer it’s like a middle point in formality :)

(Or is it "el correo"?)

The correct way would be “el correo” because “al correo” even though it is understood, in a literal context would be like if the mail was a person and you are answering to the mail 😅☺️

Is more used in formal conversations.

if you talk about feelings, saying Siento ir Lo siento then means that you're really really feeling it. some examples could be on a funeral. "Siento mucho tu pérdida" (formal)

if it's causal you can say Siento___
but for formal conversations I recommend Me disculpo or Una disculpa por___

the both ways are correct , a really informal way would be : perdóname por no haber contestado tú correo . but your twoo sentences are formal.


and don't use haber-le, only use haber
Siento no haber contestado antes su correo
