He was the subject of constant bullying and was regularly beaten up throughout his entire school life simply for the color of his skin. That is where his artistry and creativity comes from; he fled from reality to look inside and desperately try to find some sort of anchor. What ended up helping him was to write long phrases in a such a way that they would rhyme with each other. Through his teenage years, Marshal and his schoolmate Make (is it Mark?) attended a variety of competitions in freestyle rap, which were all about who could make the lyrics go together in such a way as to make their opponent look bad. The most successful and one of the most controversial albums that he has ever released was Slim Shady. It’s distinctive features being comical twists and parodies of Hollywood artists.
