@esejacky Yes totally! But if I had to estimate, I'd use "Ten thirty" 85% of times and "half past ten" the other 15% of the time.
I would use "past" or "to" when the times are not so "nice" like this:
10:50 - I'd rather say: Ten minutes to 11
10:45 - I'd rather say: Ten forty five
10:15 - I'd rather say: Ten fifteen
10:20 - I'd rather say: 20 past 10 because "ten twenty" sounds a little off but it would be totally fine.
This is one of those acquire by habit or experience kind of things.
