Hii, can anyone please explain pronome relativo, specifically che and cui, what they are, how they are used etc. This is what we have written about it in class.😊

la parola "che" può fungere sia da congiunzione (quando non può essere sostituito da il quale, la quale, etc) che da pronome relativo (quando invece PUÒ essere sostituito da il quale, la quale etc, e serve per sostituire un componente della frase )


esempi:
"Marco diceva che Lucia fosse andata via>in questo caso "che" è una congiunzione perché collega due proposizioni


la ragazza, che è seduta vicino a noi, è Lucia
in questo caso che è un pronome relativo perché sostituisce "la ragazza" e può essere sostituito con la quale>>>>> la ragazza, la quale è seduta....

Like you wrote, those are relative pronouns in Italian and Macedonian. It's when you talk about something that has to do with what you've already talked about. "che" for anything, object or subject, human or non-human, therefore "кој", "којшто", "што" (I guess, I don't speak Macedonian). "È la ragazza che va a scuola con me" --> she's the girl who goes to school with me "È il tavolo che ho comprato ieri" --> it's the table (that) I bought yesterday "La poltrona, che ha 50 anni, è di mio nonno" --> the armchair, which is 50 years old, is my grandpa's "cui" si usa con le preposizioni: "È la ragazza di cui ti parlavo" --> she's the girl (whom) I talked you about/about whom I talked you "È il tavolo su cui mangiamo" --> it's the table (which) we eat on/it's the table on which we eat "La poltrona, su cui si siede sempre mio nonno, è vecchia" --> the armchair, on which my granpa always sits, is old "il/la quale" (plural --> "i/le quali") are a more formal way of saying "che" or "cui". You usually enconter them in written language or formal speeches or texts. They can substitute "che" only when between commas (that is, when the sentence is just an extra description, unnecessary for understanding the context). "È la ragazza della quale ti parlavo" (di + la = della) --> she's the girl (whom) I talked you about/about whom I talked you "La poltrona, la quale ha 50 anni, è di mio nonno" --> the armchair, which is 50 years old, is my grandpa's "La poltrona, sulla quale si siede sempre mio nonno, è vecchia" --> the armchair, on which my grandpa always sits, is old WRONG --> "È il tavolo il quale ho comprato ieri" <-- WRONG
