‎"I’m not sure you can say transcontinental or crosscontinental since the United States is on one continent."

This is written by an American. My question is, is it OK not to write "I'm not sure if you can" but to write "I'm not sure you can". I mean, I think this sentence should be with an "if" between the "sure" and the "you". What do you think? Does the original sentence sound natural?
