Some scholars said the end of the Ming period, when 李卓吾 [a person' name] lived, could be considered as the modern age, but I don't agree with them. sembra naturale?

I am especially concerned about how to use "could" here because "could" often implies the uncertainty rather than functions as the past tense of "can." Here I use "could" as the past tense of "can."
