What Russian women (not men) think about feminism (all waves and types of feminism) ? I have seen Russian women say they have a career and such and they are happy about their rights, do you think that's it are you want more rights?

@nnnnnnnnnnnnn sorry it was a mistake, Do Americans look at the Russians as feminists or more traditional?

@luluabaza I know that question is not directed at me, but I want to give my opinion anyway.
Honestly, I don't think most Americans know anything at all about Russian men or women.
I don't want to offend anyone by saying this, it's not offensive, but as an American I worry that anything you say has the potential to offend someone. The impression I have gotten from speaking to Russians over the last 5 years is that things in Russia remind me of the way America probably was 40-60 years ago. What do I mean by that? Well, it seems like gender roles are still.. I don't know what words to use, quite common there.
So as an American, that is the opposite of being a feminist to me, and more traditional to me I suppose.

@vz9002 I was actually surprised by the expectations of gender roles in Russia, I thought it is only in the middle east lol, even many Arab women are changing including me, what kind of gender roles have you seen annoys you the most?

@vz9002 I agree with this post. Unless someone does their own research or is interested in Russia, we know little to nothing about it.

@luluabaza Hmm.. Different things, I don't know if all of these things are gender roles, I don't know a lot about gender roles. Men are expected to make the decisions, make the money, and be aggressive in pursuing women.
I'm big on equality, I am a strong supporter of it. I want my wife girlfriend to help with all of those things. I don't want to make all the decisions, I don't want to support us or be relied on to make most of our money. As for the last part where I mention pursing women, here's a quote and article I found online.
"The women I interviewed for a research project and book expected men to ask for, plan, and pay for dates; initiate sex; confirm the exclusivity of a relationship; and propose marriage."

In the US men are still usually the ones to propose, and I have no problem with that really, but some of the other things mentioned in that quote bother me. I read very little from that article by the way, I was just trying to find something online that said what I couldn't think of how to say.

What bothers me is that it seems woman are only seen as maids who wash and clean and make food and take care of children.(I think that is probably something that should be split between both men and woman because one person will not be able to do all that) and that men are all expecting woman to just like doing all that without help. And in turn the woman can help with decisions and money as well. Btw, not wanting to make the money is not even about gender, it just means you don’t like having all that pressure on you.(kinda understandable but also sad that it matters so much) and I think it’s gender roles that are more changing in North/South American countries, and some of europe.

@Lys_Ode It's funny you say that, that's exactly what I was thinking after I wrote my last reply. I think it all boils down to pressure. I'm having trouble trying to put what I'm thinking into words right now. Basically, a lot of the things I mentioned in my last reply make me feel pressured, and having a woman help with the decisions, and all of the other things I mentioned relieves some of that pressure in my opinion.
I was also thinking, there are probably some American men who are very different from me. They probably like control, being the breadwinner, making all the decisions, etc.

@luluabaza hmmm.. Actually I think that many Russian women come to America and try to steal away rich married men. I know of many older men who cheated or left their wife for a young Russian woman 🤣 so maybe that the russians who left are more feminist and the one inside Russia are traditional

@nnnnnnnnnnnnn I guess the one who are out of Russia are still traditional for going after the rich guy from America, if she was feminist she wouldn't care about the money

Younger Americans (13-25 years old) think of Russia as a meme or joke. When we think anything Russia, we think “comrade, come with me to the gulag” and guns and violence everywhere.

I think I’m general Russian women are more traditional than American women and more family focused and put more care into appearing and acting feminine but they also work. I think the US has a long way to go to catch up to places like Scandinavia where things seem more equal. Here it seems women are expected to do everything men do and also raise children and take care of the home. It’s supposed to be equal but statistically women are still doing the majority here. I believe in Russia women get something like a year of maternity leave which is much more progressive than here and effects women’s opportunities. In Denmark I believe women and men both get 6 months of maternity leave which allows them to have a more equal society. I think also for genders to be more equal men will need to be given more rights especially when it comes to child care.
