I would add that "haber" is the verb to express existence in Spanish. It has no number (or colloquially, it's always singular).
There is / There are = Hay
There was / There were = Hubo or Había
There has been / There have been = Ha habido
There will be = Habrá
There is / are going to be = Va a haber
There used to be = Había / Solía haber
Etc.
