Hello everyone, this sentence (严密地遮盖住或封住) means “To tightly cover or seal”. If 遮盖 means to cover, what purpose does 住 have and why it comes after the verb? As far as I know 住 means to “live; reside or stop”. It just doesn’t seem to fit in with the overall meaning of the sentence. Is it a verb compliment like 得 or does it have some aspectual function like 了?

Note: I know that this “住” isn’t obligated to be there and can be omitted but I still want to know what purpose it serve in this sentence. Cuz every now and then I see weird stuff like this come up when reading or listening to casual speech.
