Is the expression"if you are right or not" correct?I noticed it on BBC Learning English program. However, according to grammar rules, it is "whether" that should be followed by "or not" instead of "if". Quite confused now.

对我来说,都可以。whether好像更正式,但是作为美国人它们俩都是对的。Maybe “whether” is more grammatically correct, but “if” is spoken commonly.

In the US most people would use “if,” but either one is correct. Some would say that using “whether” is more correct, so it’s not surprising that the British would use that more.
