@KevinF Je ne sais pas si j'ai bien compris votre question, mais :
EXPECT
J'attends ... = it means you want someone or something to be the way you want
Je m'attends à ... = it means you think that something is going to happen a certain way
J'attends que tu viennes = I (strongly) expect you to come. (I really want you to come and not doing so would go against my demand)
Je m'attends à ce que tu viennes = I expect you to come. (I think that there is a high probability that you will come)

■"attendre" can mean both "wait" and "expect".
J'attends ma femme à l'aéroport. (=wait)
J'attends beaucoup de toi. (=expect)
It can also mean "to be pregnant", "don't do anything before", "to be ready"
Ma cousine attend un bébé. (=pregnant)
Attends d'écouter ce qu'il a à dire. (=don't do anything before)
Votre cadeau vous attend en magasin. (=is ready for you/waiting for you)
■"s'attendre" can mean "expect" as well or "wait for each other"
Je m'attends à ce qu'il devienne président. (=expect)
Ils se sont attendus à deux endroits différents. (=wait for each other)
