However "Loslegen" is almost exclusively used verbally and rarely in written text. It also is mostly used for things in the present.

It can also be used in a (bit cocky)

"Lets see what you got" ( "Na dann leg mal los.")

kind of way.


For
" We should start paying more attention from now on." ( "Wir sollten anfangen besser aufzupassen.")
or
"I started learning an other language." ( "Ich habe angefangen eine andere Sprache zu lernen.")

or any other long term comittments "anfangen" is the word to use

Same when referring to the past

( "I started training 5 yeara ago" - "Ich habe vor 5 Jahren angefangen zu trainieren.")

or future
( "I will start tomorrow." - "Ich fange morgen damit an.")


In short: "Anfangen" can be used in more situations. If you are unsure what to use, just go with "anfangen", as it can always fill in for "loslegen" - which is not true in reverse.
