Is the sentence “She was looked at by herself in the mirror” grammatically correct? I know it should be “She looked at herself in the mirror”, but my son says, as far as grammar is concerned, the first sentence is correct, and a score should be given in the test. What do you think?

@Amarena21 It follows grammatical rules and in that sense is correct. But no one would ever say it like that. As for a test score, whether it receives points might depend on the instructions given. In general, the “correct” answer on a test is the best answer rather than an answer that is only technically not wrong. I doubt an unnaturally worded sentence like “She was looked at by herself in the mirror” is the best answer.

If you are talking about grammar ONLY, then yes, it is correct.
But it doesn't really make sense because the image in the mirror isn't a living thing, so it can't "look at" anything. Its just a reflection. This sounds like something you might see in a novel, but not say in real life.
