The gold rush of television animation production in Japan (or rather in Tokyo) eventually turned every Japanese animation studio into a workplace full of overworked and underpaid artists, but I'll come back to that later. With the overproduction of television animation, the number of sub-contracting studios multiplied one after the other. That's because animators realized that if you had a few people with drawing or painting skills, you could set up a small animation studio specializing in subcontracting, even if you didn't have a lot of capital.
