Endanger the environment puts the environment at risk, maybe at risk of getting polluted or habitats destroyed or trees cut down etc. The point is the real damage may not have been done.

Damage the environment describes the action of actually damaging it. So damage will be done to it.

If you want to say damaging the environment but using damage as a noun, I would use the phrase "dealing damage to the environment". "Give the environment serious damage" is probably fine but no one would really say "provide damage" because you use provide for something good.
