Qual è la differenza tra ɪ (IPA) e i (IPA) ?Sentiti libero di rispondere con un esempio.

/aɪ/ (Price/Rice/Mice)
/i/ Short Vowel (Sit/Ship/Fit)

is it just a typo?? or are they different? (ɪ and i)

When they are on their on they are different. ɪ is ee, and i is a short i.

But is not only about shortness.

Consider Rice. Rice is pronounced Ra ee su (japanpesely speaking) and not Ra isu. I will do a recording.

Sorry I must have got all the above wrong. I am reading now that ɪ is the short vowel. But I say a video where it was contrasted with i as a short vowel. I think perhaps there is more than one notation see here below

No, I had them back to front above. i is easy and ɪ is in Izzy (the name).

So why is rice raɪs and not rais ? I guess it is the opposite of what I was saying. I am sorry.

Rice is pronounced raɪs not rais (raeeesu) the COMPLETE REVERSE OF WHAT I SAID ABOVE.

I am very sorry. I never use IPA myself and to answer above I looked at the Internet but muddled things up.

I am not sure of the difference between i and i: however.

The /i/ vowel, not a recognised phoneme of English, is a shorter, weaker version of the phoneme /i:/. /i/ is the sound produced by many speakers for the letter y at the end of such words as pretty, happy, unfortunately, badly. No words start with that sound.

The point to me is that ɪ and i (i:) are not just different in length but also in sound. i: is the fith letter of the alphabet E and it can be said briefly at the end of words as the "y" (i in IPA) but ɪ is inherently more explosive and there appears to be no long version.

Some people, such as my grandmother who was from Scotland say the final "y" on words as ɪ .... sort of like "quicklih"

I think /i/ sounds like い with a little bit え
and ɪ is short い

I am afraid I am not hearing the え sound in /i/.

However, conversely, in your audio the only thing that I thought was a little amiss (not right) was that you seem to say "think" with a bit of a diphthong as if it were two vowels. In other words, I hear a bit of /i/ in your "I theeink" (iɪ) whereas I don't think that there is any i in my think.

Later I hope to record my voice but right now the microphone is being used for Zoom.
