Domande Cina
I have been doing some research on Chinese dubbing and the Chinese dialects. I'm still not able to recognize different accents in Chinese, so I have been wondering about this for a while.
If it's stated a character is from a region with a different dialect, is it dubbed using the Standard Chinese or the said dialect?

What do you mean by "dub"? To nickname someone or something? Or to change the sound (using another language) of a movie or TV program?

@prochesseur I mean the movie and TV program one. I have read that in China it is done a lot even if it's still Chinese.

Usually it's standard Chinese (i.e. Mandarin) that's always used for dubbing. For example, if in a movie, one speaker is from the UK and another is from the US, their accent will be different, but the Chinese dubbing will be in the same accent, Mandarin. Even if one of the character is, say, German, still no other dialect will be used except Mandarin (of course, sometimes the audience will hear the original German speech, with/without subtitles but without dubbing, if the speech was originally designed not to be easily understood by the main audience, such as English speakers).
One of the reason, I think, is that the differences between different Chinese dialects can be very huge. Without special learning, a person from Beijing can understand less Cantonese than a Portuguese can with Spanish. Therefore using dialects may reduce the understandability of the movie. On the other hand, people working with the dubbing job are not necessarily trained in dialects. They may speak dialects with different fluencies. Besides, there would be the problem of consistency. You can't imagine English with the Scottish accent be represented with the accent of Shandong Province in one movie but with the accent of Hubei Province in another, which would result in a confusing effect :D.
