‎Hello, can any native speaker help me with my homework, please?

A few years ago, my family spent a summer vacation in Croatia. The weather was lovely, and everyone had fun. However, there were some difficulties, for example, with ants everywhere in our apartment.

Another problem occurred when we were exploring nearby islands on a boat that we had borrowed. It felt adventurous, although we had not gone far away. After a while, we anchored near a small island. We were snorkelling around, so we did not even notice that a sailing boat, which passed by us, had discharged an oily mix of fish leftovers. We found out as soon as we get out of the water. It did not only smell bad but also it was impossible to get out of hair.

Then we went back and washed it with a detergent instead of the usual shampoos because they had turned out to be useless. On the whole, it was a wonderful time, and unpleasant experiences, as they often do, have turned into funny stories.

The sentence in the first paragraph, "However, there were some difficulties, for example, with ants everywhere in our apartment" sounds a little weird. It would sound more natural if it said "However, there were some difficulties. For example, We had ants everywhere in our apartment." The last sentence in your middle paragraph, "It did not only smell bad but also it was impossible to get out of hair." sounds a bit off, correct it by saying "It not only smelled bad, but also was impossible to get out of our hair." The last paragraph sounds a little wrong as well, Here's your last paragraph with my corrections. "We then went back and washed it with a detergent instead of regular shampoo because they had been useless trying to clean our hair. All in all, it was a wonderful time, and unpleasant experiences, as they often do, have turned into funny stories."

The task was to write an article into a magazine about journey where we had a problem. We had to use all three past narrative tenses and connecting words and follow this structure: 1. paragraph -introduction, 2. paragraph - main story (what happened), 3. paragraph - conclusion (what happened in the end).
130-160 words.
And, by the way, do you like the title? ;)
