These aren't so much 'daily expressions', but I hope you find the below sample sentences helpful.
"The arrival of typhoon Maria in the Naruto Strait strengthened the world-famous whirlpools; In under 12 hours their vortices had grown to over 10 meters in diameter."
"England's decision to ignore the 13 colonies desire for representation, had thrown it, with little preparation, into the emerging vortex of North American politics. "
"Our relationship was like a vortex - powerful, inescapable, but ultimately, suffocating."
"I find it difficult to explain how I feel. It's as if I'm caught up in a vortex of emotions, trying desperately to keep my head above water."

“Struggling in the whirlpool of vocabulary ocean, the war vortex of bilingual thinking is forming”---Is it weird that I use them this way?

It’s difficult to use multiple ‘whirlpool’ metaphors in a single sentence. The first thing to note (and this is my fault for not leaving an explanation along with the example sentences) is that ‘vortex’ and ‘whirlpool’, when used in an abstract way, are essentially interchangeable. When we say ‘vortex’ or ‘whirlpool’ we are generally likening something to the general powerful, violent, chaotic movement of the water. The final three example sentences would fall under this category.
"England's decision to ignore the 13 colonies desire for representation, had thrown it, with little preparation, into the emerging vortex of North American politics."
"Our relationship was like a vortex - powerful, inescapable, but ultimately, suffocating."
"I find it difficult to explain how I feel. It's as if I'm caught up in a vortex of emotions, trying desperately to keep my head above water."
When we use ‘whirlpool’ or ‘vortex’ in an abstract way (object/topic A is like thing B) we commonly only use a single term in a single sentence.
The first example sentence on the other hand, would fall under ‘real-world observation’:
"The arrival of typhoon Maria in the Naruto Strait strengthened the world-famous whirlpools; In under 12 hours their vortices had grown to over 10 meters in diameter."
Here there is a technical/notable difference between ‘whirlpool’ (anywhere that you can feel the rotation of the water) and ‘vortex/vortices’ (the empty space in the very centre of a whirlpool’). This difference allows the sentence to have both terms in it without sounding unnatural.
If we break down your example: “Struggling in the whirlpool of vocabulary ocean, the war vortex of bilingual thinking is forming”. We essentially have two sentences here, or two separate thoughts.
First, and please forgive me for paraphrasing your sentence, “Sometimes I feel as if I’m struggling in the whirlpool of a vocabulary ocean” – this is a great metaphor. You have a single noun, ‘whirlpool’, likened against an abstract idea, the ‘vocabulary ocean’.
Secondly “the war vortex of bilingual thinking is forming” – In essence this is another great metaphor! The only issue is that you have a double noun in ‘war’ being followed by ‘vortex’. It would be more natural to place an adjective in front of the noun ‘vortex’ to give it more emphasis/make it more descriptive. Something like this:
“Every day I feel I move a little closer to mastering the raging vortex that is bilingual thinking”.
By arranging the sentence like above we again end up with a single noun 'vortex' being compared to an abstract idea, 'bilingual thinking'.
To summarise: Using vortex/whirlpool in an abstract way? Just pick one term.
Using it in a tangible, representational way? You can use both terms in a single sentence depending on the context, and what you are trying to convey.
I apologise for the length of my reply. I wanted to try and cover as many points as I thought were relative in enough detail to sufficiently explain them. I fear I may have just rambled on a bit and made things confusing for you. Let me know if you have any questions.
