I'm not familar with the difference between "civil" and "civic" when I think of the term "the Civil Rights Movement."
I know "civil" is used in contrast to the military or church and "civic" refers to a town or city, or the government.
But when it comes to the Civil Rights Movement, I wonder how the altered phrase "the Civic Rights Movement" would sound like.
In short, why is it "civil" instead of "civic?"

As you can see in the dictionary. "Civil" used in contrast to the military is only one usage of the term. There are many others.

Apparently, "civic" rights would only refer to an individual person, whereas "civil" refers to the rights of everyone. I have never heard the term "civic rights," however.
