It can be used in both formal and informal situations. e.g. Are you guys from upper management? (formal situation) / You guys crack me up! (more informal situation).

“You guys” is an informal way of addressing friends or acquaintances. If you don’t know someone, then you would address the person by their name. For example, Mr. Smith or Ms. Jones or Emma or Mike.

@Koysk. You are welcome! And, yes it was plural. The point is, if you don’t know someone or a group of people and the situation requires more decorum, use names or you can simply say you. As in, it is nice to meet you. Leave off the word guys.
