There is one expression that I couldn’t understand in this sentence: being dinged. I looked it up in the dictionary and it says the meaning is <being rejected.> Is there any other possibility that it means something different?

But the reason that I wasn’t convinced that it was the sound that a mobile phone usually makes is because I thought the following word <notified> has the same meaning. Does the word <notified> mean a different thing?

On my mobile phone I can receive notifications from multiple apps, including text messages - I have different sounds for things like reminders and texts. While it’s true that a text is a form of notification, I personally think of them as different things, and I think the writer was just looking for “three ways we can be distracted” and went with whatever they could think of. Maybe they were thinking of notifications as visual distractions (like clickbait) and the ding as an auditory distraction.
