こんにちは。
So I wanted to ask a question about tattoo. I know that in Japan it's kinda banned but if I as a foreigner who is interested in Japanese langauage and Japanese culture would like to get a tattoo with Japanese motive and some quote like 自業自得 (found it on internet I am not really good at kanji yet so don't know if it's correct but the translation seemed to be something I could relate to) would it be disrespectful?
I really wanna get a tattoo and since I love Japan I thought it could be something in kanji or kana and some motive.

I don't think it is disrespectful.
Instead,I'm so happy.
But be careful about the tatoo words you get.
For example, 自業自得's meaning is one asked for it.
We often see a tattoo with a strange meaning.
I'm not good at English,so i don't know it is natural English.
I hope you know what I say😂

I think most Japanese will be happy and feel a sense of familiarity when we find foreigners with tatoo in Japanese.
But in Japan tatoo is not very common, so some of us may think that the foreigners are stupid or dislike them.
Personally I am happy to know that!

@sxiao Okay thank you so much ^^ and also thank you for the translation haha. I know that some ppl wanted kanji characters bcs it looked cool but the words were weird and they didn't even know the meaning. So I will check with native speakers before getting the tattoo 😁

@246ra thank you so much! ^^ I know that in Japan it's not really open for tattoos and I would cover it if needed if I visit (hopefully I will someday) and also check the meaning of the words with native speakers before getting it so it's not something that doesn't make sense ^^ thank you again very much!

自業自得 means something negative or sarcastic. In Japan, it doesn’t look cool. The word sometimes used to blame others.
