@gabriela_mendoza Our education is as follow:
- Asilo nido
- Scuola dell'infanzia (also called Asilo)
- Scuola primaria (also called Scuola elementare): mandatory, from 6 (the year when we are 6) to 11 (5 year)
- Scuola media inferiore (also called Scuola media): mandatory, from 11 to 14 (3 year)
- Scuola media superiore (also called Scuola superiore or Liceo): mandatory, we have so many different type of schools. From 14 to 19 (5 year). There are also some Scuola superiore which is only 4 years. Moreover, there are some school which is 3+2 years (so 3 years, you have an exam, then you can do another 2 years)
-Università, not mandatory. We have different types of universities (3 years called Laurea, 2 other years called Laurea Magistrale or 5/6 years which is called Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico)
Ask me something else, if you want

Scuola elementare, media and superiore aren't mandatory, the education from 6 to 19 is mandatory. You can decide to do homeschooling (Scuola parentale or homeschooling), but it's not very common.
After 3+2 or 5/6 years of University, you can apply for a PhD position, but almost nobody knows what a PhD is (we have this possibility since 1980).
About the title "Doctor", everybody who do a University course (3+2 or 5/6 years, you're a Doctor):
- 3 years of University: it's like Bachelor degree and we call it Laurea, after it, we are "Dottore", e.g. "Dottore in matematica"
- 2 years of University (you must already do a Laurea), it's like your Master degree, we are "Dottore Magistrale" and this course is called Laurea Magistrale
-5/6 years, the course is called "Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico" and you're "Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico", we are "Dottore Magistrale"
- after the phd, called "Dottorato di ricerca", we are "Dottore di ricerca"
About University, we can also fo Masters (ATTENTION: it's not a real master!!!! It's a course called master but it's NOT a master. These are very expensive and they do not give us a title like Doctor or something else) but they're very cool for us

Ciao.
One of the main differences is that many of the exams we face during the school career are held with teachers who have prepared us previously, and are closing exams of a study cycle. This obviously makes it easier to "cheat", which would not make sense if professors were preparing for an entrance exam to the next school cycle done in front of people we have never seen before.

@vannaraffa Please, do you know for sure is this is a difference in USA or England valid for all the education system, for example in the compulsory education too? Or only for the university level?
