Domande Inglese (Stati Uniti)
Hi, can I ask you if the following sentences sound natural? 😊
(1) The word I heard from him suddenly came to my mind.
(2) The word I heard from him suddenly occurred to my mind.
(3) The word I heard from him suddenly crossed my mind.
If none of them sound unnatural, would you please let me know natural ways to say it? 🙂

@lller They can be interchanged in some contexts, you could use occur, but the other two sentences sounded more natural to me. It also depends on the context.
If you want to use 'remember,' you could say something like 'I suddenly remembered the word I had heard him say.' (you can use "I'd", instead of 'I had' if you want to sound more informal)

I would say something along the lines of
“I suddenly remembered what he said to me.”

@lller 2 is correct, but it doesn't sound natural, since the word "occur" means you just realized something, the others sound natural

@Mayukha_Moganti Thank you very much for your answer! Yes, I think ‘remember’ sounds better in this context.
However, I am wondering if ‘come to mind’, ‘occur’ or ‘cross’ doesn’t work. 🤔

@Kanye_East Thank you very much for your answer!
Hm, I thought ‘occur’ and ‘come to mind’ could be used interchangeably.

@Kanye_East I see! Thank you very much for getting back to me! 😅
So, in this context, ‘come to mind’, ‘cross my mind’ and ‘remember’ sound natural, right? 😊
