@fishsticks Oh, that makes sense, which kind of sucks though cause I've been learning most verbs in its polite form not the dictionary form. I'm trying to learn how to introduce myself and some things that I like to do before I start my first Japanese class in a couple of months

@ChadEdwards you wouldn't need こと for nouns, the ことis essentially making the verb into a noun. So "I like my computer" would be わたしのコンピュータがすきです。

Example, i like girl.(Watashi wa onnanoko ga sukidesu.)

Watashi wa taberukotoga sukidesu.(わたしは たべることが すきです)

@ChadEdwards すき does mean like, こと is thing, literally it is "the thing of eating", that's just the way they say it. And usually with すき they use the particle が instead of は.
