"Was" is not an auxiliary verb here. It is the linking verb being used to say the location of the money. In a different order, the sentence becomes: "The money was where Diana found it." -> "The money was there."
This is different than "The money was found there." - Was is an auxiliary verb here since it is making the past tense of the verb "To Find".
