It's very natural.
It can also be expressed as
"能力試験のN1には、いつ受かったの?"
, but both are almost the same.

Well, I don't think most Japanese have some idea when you mention N1, unless you rephrase it as "Level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test," like 日本語能力試験の一級はいつ取ったの? Just for reference, Japanese people often say "I'm taking the TOEIC next month" or "I finally got a 600 on the TOEIC". This is a four-choice English proficiency test. Most Japanese don't know that outside of Japan, people don't even know that the TOEIC exists.
Just to add my two cents, "受かった" (passed) is certainly correct, but "取った" (got) is more appropriate in some cases like this, I believe. Passing or failing the JLPT, especially the N1, is a very serious matter for those who want to go to school in Japan or get a job in Japan. In other words, it is equivalent to a qualification exam. If you want to become a bus driver, you need to have a second-class driver's license, and if you pass the qualification test for the special license, it is called "I am now qualified to drive a bus" or "I got a license to drive a bus". Therefore, "I got my N1" sounds more natural to us than "I passed the N1" in Japanese.

@dorami_9000 oh I didn't know about 取った, I like that!
I was talking to a 日系 who knew about the JLPT, but thanks for the reminder that most Japanese people aren't aware of it. We tend to forget.
