提成 is more widely used in daily life. An employee earn portion of the revenue from the employer.
I rarely use 佣金. The money is also a portion of transaction, so I think it’s okay to use in this context. The last time I heard of this word is my mom have to pay the 佣金 to the 证券商(securities dealer) every time a transaction is made in the stock market
Are you writing a legal document or are you asking about the daily usage? I vote 提成 for both the scenarios. You may use 佣金 for the latter, but I do not recommend that.

@b6c0aa20 Thank you!
I think I was asking for the general term for "commission" (in that scenario -- a sales person selling products and getting certain amounts/percentages as his commissions).
So you're saying 提成 is good for both speaking & writing. Good to know. Thanks!
P.S. Do you also use the term 酬劳 for the type of commission I was referring to in my original example?

@StopAAPIHate 酬劳 is a more general term. It’s the money which compensates one’s labor, either physically or intellectually, so it fits the context. However, 提成 is the most precise word
btw, I am super impressive that you learnt so many languages! In addition, I think that the PRC Mandarin vocabulary is the same as that of Taipei, except modern concepts imported from western life, such microphone, web, computer program, and that the simplified Chinese characters are much easier to learn than the traditional one, although the latter are more artistic.
