1. I was really glad to see it--I'm so happy!
Past tense here is done by "was", so it should be "see". You translated the rest of the sentence correctly, but it is not how we would describe feeling happy after getting good news. The way I wrote it is a more natural way to mention twice that you're happy.

2. I told my family and other people who care that I passed right away.
すぐに is better as "right away" than "right now" (which is closer to 今).

3 is correct as it is, but I think "congratulated me" might be better than "told me congratulations."

4 is also correct as it is, but you might want to say "They made me happy" or "That made me happy" to make it clear you were happy to be congratulated, which is different than the happiness you talk about first, from passing the exam.

@yuuffy Good questions! These are difficult situations.

"-" is called a 'hyphen'. A hyphen is generally used to connect words or show were words would normally be connected. For example, "long-term" is hyphenated. It is two words that, together, make one new word (it basically means "for a long time").

"--" is called an 'em dash'. The em dash has many, many uses. Here, I used it as a "self interruption". This is used to give yourself a pause, or show that you are updating your thoughts and feelings as you speak. Basically, this way, you say "I'm glad" -- pause -- "I'm so happy!".

As a noun, "that" usually refers to things that haven't been mentioned yet. After it's been mentioned, you use "it".
A: "Do you still have that book I lent you?"
B: "Yes, I have it."

A: "I want to go see that new movie."
B: "I want to see it too!"

In your first sentence, it sounds like you already mentioned what made you "glad to see", so you should write "it" instead of "that."

I think I understand about ‘ hyphen’ and ‘em dash ‘. I’ll try to use it. What is ‘ dash’ ?
When someone ask you questions, for example ‘ Is this okay?’ like stuff, ‘ It’s good’ is better to say, right? It’s because, the thing is already mentioned as the question so ‘ it’ is better than ’ that ‘. Is this understanding correct?

I forgot to ask you but what the difference, “ I am happy “ and “ I’m so happy “? I’m sure they are happier than “ I’m happy “.
Also, “ right now “ is like 今すぐ, and “ right away “ is like (その時)すぐ in Japanese?

"Dash" is the word to describe "--". In this case "dash" is used to mean "straight line".
It is called an "em dash" because there are other kinds of dashes, like an "en dash". But you don't have to worry about that; it's not really used it writing! The important ones are hyphen and em dash.

Do you mean
A: "Is this okay?"
B: "It's good."
is better than
B: "That's good." ?
I think either one works. I think native speakers usually answer questions with "Yeah, that's fine" instead of "that's good."

"I am happy" and "I'm happy" are the exact same thing, except everyone always says "I'm happy". "I'm" is just a short way to say "I am" by dropping the a. "I'm so happy" is like saying とても嬉しい。

The last question is a little difficult for me because I am not 100% confident in my understanding of the nuance with words like すぐ、今すぐ、and even 早々。I will just explain the nuance in English because I do not want to say the wrong thing in Japanese.

"Right now" is usually used for things that are already happening.
1. "I'm leaving the house right now."
2. "I'm on my way to work right now."
3. "I'm eating dinner right now."
All of these sentences show things that the person is doing in that exact moment. I am typing this message to you on my keyboard right now.

"Right away" is used for things that will happen, or you will do, very VERY soon. They are things you haven't done yet.
1. If you're given a task by your boss, you can respond "I'll take care of that right away." This implies that it will be the next thing you do.
2. If someone takes a long time to respond to your question, you can say "He didn't reply right away."
3. If someone performs well at their job, you could say "I want to promote them right away." This implies that you will promote them at the next possible opportunity.

In the FIRST sentence, you could ALSO respond to your boss "I'll take care of that right now." However, the nuance is a bit different between the two. "I'll take care of that right now" means you will do it IMMEDIATELY, that instant, even if it means stopping what you were already doing. "I'll take care of that right away" is less clear -- it can mean the same thing, that you will do it IMMEDIATELY; or it can mean the same as Sentence 3, where you will do it at the next possible opportunity.
