Nur "Es ist endlich Wochenende" ist korrekt.

@mpdx Okay, danke, das dachte ich, aber ich war auch überrascht, das herauszufinden — natürlich will ich „warum“ fragen, und vielleicht ist es einfach eine Redewendung, und man sagt es so, nur weil man es so sagt, aber gibt es etwas Besonderes über dem Wort „Wochenende“, das es so macht?

hmm "das Wochenende" sounds like it is a specific Weekend that has arrived.
"Es ist endlich das Wochende da."
this sentence makes sense but is very unusual to say. maybe if you are in a situation where you waited for a weekend in wich you can do something special.

@ianblackwood as Omicron_Gamma said, it sounds like a specific weekend (hence "bestimmter Artikel" / definite article).
There are different form of articles "der, die das" (Standard), "kein" (Negativartikel), "mein, dein, sein, .." (Possessivartikel). But there is one more, called "Nullartikel".
There are many cases where you use the Nullartikel - to put it in other words, "where you don't use an article."
This cases are:
- Undefined nouns in Plural. ("Kannst du mir eine Batterie geben?" -> "Kannst du mir Batterien geben?")
- Names and (academic) Titles ("Ich spreche mit Monika." / "Hast du Herrn Jakob gesehen?"
- Institutions (most of the time)
- Cities, Continents
- Countries (most of the time)
- Nationalities
- School/University subjects, Languages
- Quantities, Measurments
- Materials (only singular)
- Abstact expressions/concepts
- Fixed expressions
- Special days/Holidays
I hope that helps, there are a few other cases, but I think those are the most important. "Wochenende" counts as holiday, I think.
