How do you say "you" in Japanese? I heard that あなた is rude/impolite. So, what is the right way to say it and/or what is the right way to refer to someone?

You is “あなた” in Japanese. So when you say “あなた”, at least they can understand what you want to say.
Then, if your Japanese improved more and still keep using “あなた”, yes we want you call the person’s name.
If you don’t know the person’s name, and still try not to use あなた, you can say that sentence without “あなた”.

Example:
すみません、失礼ですが、お名前はなんですか？

But I think if you are a beginner, there’s no problem to use あなた.
That’s another story.

“You”=“あなた” And, I don’t think it’s rude and impolite. But, I use “あなた” to others, It’s depend on the relationship and the situation. And, I don’t use it much.

Because, a person who were told maybe feel as if he/she was pushed off.

For example, if I talk with others, I never use “あなた”, then I always keep in mind to use the person’s name + san(さん). In this case, Others call me “Nobby-san”.

When I use “あなた”, it’s a case of expressing-indirectly.(e.g. your book = “あなた の 本(book)

In Japanese we usually use opposit‘s names. In some cases ”あなた“ may sound a little bit impolite or take you feign politeness. So how to use it is not so easy. Using names are on the safer side
