Domande Inglese (Regno Unito)
What is the English name for a being available by a lecturer for students in his room at university in planned hours, every week? I don't mean classes where he is teaches.
It is the time just for students who need to find out something or do some overdue assignments, pass failed exams. During that time lecturer also check essays or exams or do whatever he wants but have to be available for students.

@aiko_makalo Does it implicate just time, or also a date and room? :)
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
@Klaudiaa95 Usually a time. You could say: “My office hour is Friday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.” This would mean it took place every Friday at this time. Students would be expected to look up where the lecturer’s office was.
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo So can I replace it with office information?
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
@Klaudiaa95 No. For the context you’re talking about, you definitely want “office hour”.
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo Should I add a section room? Is the room always the same for a lecturer or he is in different rooms in different weeks? :)
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
@Klaudiaa95 you could add the room (“My office hour is Friday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm in room 101”. Normally office hours are in the same place but sometimes lecturers might be in different places on different days
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo It is for filling by someone so I put sections. I don't use the whole sentence :D
Here, you can see a context :) Is that fine to use it in this way?
Do you think I should add something else? In this table are supposed to be details for 'subject overview' so essential information about subject/course/class at university (BTW, is that fine if I treat these three words as synonyms?).

@Klaudiaa95 I think that it’s fine as you’ve put it.
Subject/course/class can be synonymous but it depends on context.
If I were studying for a BA in History, my subject/course would be history but I might take classes in Ancient Rome or The Second War.
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
By the way, in your table, I would put “pass grade” and “target grade”.
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo If your subject/course was history it means you were studying history? Is that correct understanding? Okay I will change these grade phrases :)
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
Yes.
In a table you could put “subject” or “course” and this would be followed by what the person is studying.
When speaking, you are more likely to say “I’m studying history.” than “My course is history.” but the second one is not wrong, just not as common.
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo I already have that information but a little bit above of table. It is not visible here.
I get it, thank you very much :)
Do classes are the same thing as subjects? Can chemistry be also a class or it is just a subject/course?

- Inglese (Regno Unito)
@Klaudiaa95 It depends on context but here I would say they are different: at university, you might take a class in “Poland in 1989” but your course/ subject would be history.
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo Oh, I get it. So I can use class = subject but in primary school or high school, not at university? Is that correct?
- Inglese (Regno Unito)
@Klaudiaa95 Yes. These words have quite a lot of subtly different meanings though. I would definitely check the next time you’re wondering about using them in a different context!
- Polacco
@aiko_makalo Okay, I am very thankful for your kind help! Thank you very much :)
