Please come up with some example sentences that include “off the top of my head”. I’m trying to learn to use it naturally.

@studiousme They would be similar if the thing that you can't remember off the top of your head is a word but even then they are still different because off the top of your head just means you can't say what it is but on the tip of your tongue means you are really really close and it's in your brain and you have the frustrated feeling of knowing what the word is but not actually knowing what it is. But off the top of your head can apply to much larger things than just one word or one phrase.
You can say: I can't remember how to run the python script off the top of my head.
You cannot say: How to run the python script is on the tip of my tongue.
You can say: I can't remember the word off the top of my head. (this means you do not know the word but it does not necessarily mean u have the word in your head and have that annoying feeling of it being on the tip of your tongue).
You can say: The word is on the tip of my tongue. (this refers to that really frustrating feeling when you almost know what the word sounds like but you just cannot quite figure out what it was. like it starts with "ch" and sounds something like "ching" no "Cheng" no "Chang" no, maybe it didn't start with "ch" but rather "sh", was it "shing", "shang"?.... etc )

I can't think of any good examples of how to use "off the top of my head" off the top of my head :)

@nerdygarenplayer5 Thanks a lot! Actually, when I saw your first example sentence, I thought you literally couldn’t think of any sentences for me. 😂
Plus I wanted to ask you, this phrase means just use the knowledge in my head without doing any research for the time being, right?

@studiousme Yes, It just means you do not remember something from memory alone, but if you look it up or check your resources for it you would remember/know it.

@nerdygarenplayer5 Thank you! Then I think it’s very similar to “on the tip of my tongue”? This phrase is also used to describe I can’t remember something for a moment. How are they different?
