Hi. Since India is such a big country, I heard that thousands of languages are spoken in India and that not all Indians speak and understand Hindi. Is this true? If it's true, are all Indian movies released only in English? I mean, do all Indian actors and actresses speak English in Indian movies? If not, how do some Indian people who don't know Hindi understand movies? Do Indian movies offer subtitles in some major languages spoken in India? For example, if a movie is showed in Telegu speaking regions, are there Telegu subtitles in the movie?

In india Hindi and English is officially language. and each state have different language if they don’t understand Hindi they must understand English and Indian films released in Hindi normally but have many languages subtitles either dubbed in other languages. Hope it answer your questions

India has no national language. We have 23 official languages (which are used by government) and 400+ unofficial ones.

Where you visit decides what people will likely understand in that region so English is a safe option to try and communicate as a foreigner. Most regions show films and tv shows of other languages in the local (state/city) language with local language dub or subtitles!

Telugu speaking region yes we have telugu subtitles when in the movie they are speaking other languages then in telugu subtitles will appear
