Domande Malay
For my son to use playing football with local Malaysian kids, can you please tell me what he can say to his friends in Malay?
(1) pass!!
(2) I’m open!
(3) good one! Great! (Or the equivalent of “bravo!”)
Welcome anything else you suggest he can say to be friendly 😊for him to integrate with the local Malaysian kids.
Thanks!🙏🏻

1. Just say pass no worries.
2. Aku kosong! (I'm empty/open/free) or Aku free!
3. Cantik ah! Baik ah! Nice ah!

@nwazq many thanks! 🙏🏻 Yes some of the kids speak a little bit of English, but most of them can’t speak to my son so I want him to feel a bit more integrated on the pitch.
As I’m learning bahasa from DuoLingo, which is Indonesian based (malay not available), can I ask you on the use of aku vs saya? Aku is informal I understand, but is saya still used in daily conversations? (At the shops, street, etc)

Aku is used between close friends and family around the same age and younger. Never use aku with those older or superior. Use saya instead. If your son is just getting to know a new friend, use saya. Then change to aku when they are comfortable with each other.
Yes, you can use saya when doing daily routines. People would think someone is rude if s/he uses aku. And don't mix aku and saya in your sentences.

@nwazq thanks that’s clear and helpful to know this context.
Then as a new comer to Malaysia, no local friends yet, some neighbors only, trying to speak with locals at restaurants, shops, then I can only use saya at this time. 😺
