Well, my reasoning was, that if you inserted "für", the grammar of the sentence would have to be slightly different. 
"... die für umweltbedingte Erkrankungen und chronische Allergien vergeblich Arzt um Arzt aufsuchten". You see, the ending of "umweltbedingt" and "chronisch" is -en  when using "nach" and -e when using "für". 
I will try to to find a better explanation about the grammatical reasons, if you can give me a moment to do some research.

The meaning of the sentence is:
"As the first environmental clinic in Germany, it soon became the first point of contact for those, who had been visiting physician after physician unsuccessfully, after environmentally caused illnesses and chronic allergies."

With "für" the meaning would also change slightly to "... for environmentally caused illnesses and chronic allergies."

I would say, "mit" is the most logical answer here, however. In German, it is more common to say "I went to the doctor with (mit) the following symptoms", than it is to say "I went to the doctor after (nach) the following symptoms", I think.

"Jemanden aufsuchen mit etwas/jemandem" would technically be the infinive form here. So yes, you can say "aufsuchen mit" but you have to also state whom you are visiting/going to see and with what/whom.

"Ich suche auf mit" (I am visiting with) is not a logical sentence. There is information missing. 
"ich suche Ina auf mit meiner Frage" (I am going to Ina with my question) is  a full sentence.

You are not wrong. They definitely have some overlap in meaning.

I'm going by a German dictionary right now, "aufsuchen" means to go to see someone at a specific place, or to go to a specific place. 
Examples are to go see a friend at their apartment, to see/consult a doctor, to go to the Toilet/Café (Die Toilette/Ein Café   aufsuchen).

"Besuchen" has a larger variety of meanings. It means to visit someone, whom you like and spend a certain amount of time together, to visit someone in their apartment for business matters, to visit someone for a certain purpose, to attend something (like a concert or a school).

So, there is a slight difference and they cannot always be used interchangeably.
"Ich gehe die Toilette aufsuchen" cannot be used with besuchen since you're not "visiting" the toilet.
(it means the same as "ich gehe auf die Toilette", it just sounds more sophisticated)

Similarly "Ich besuche die Hochschule" doesn't mean the same as "Ich suche die Hochschule auf" 
Nummer one means "I am attending college", second one means "I am going to the college", indicating that you want to to something there, for example visit a friend.

I'm sorry, it's a bit difficult to explain in clear terms, because the English language doesn't have an exact translation for both words.

@despina1234 in your example sentence you would always use "aufsuchen", because in German you never "visit" the doctor. In English it's okay. But "besuchen" in German would make it sound like you're going for a friendly visit.

1. Both are natural but mean different things. Maybe the first one makes the most sense? But it's just a guess, since I don't know the context.

3. Grammatically, you could put any of the words here. Without context, I would say "Aber irgendwo finden sich immer Leute, die berühmt werden wollen." is the most common thing to be said.

@despina1234 Yeah, I'd say it's quite common. In a work related situation, it would be more appropriate to say the whole "vollzeit arbeiten", but in spoken language especially, "voll arbeiten" is probably more common. In general, they're both commonly used though, so either is perfectly fine.

You can check this by putting it in place of "er".
