We moved in to a brend new house 3 years ago, there was no internet connection installed. The internet provider company will install it, if you order it from one of them.

First year, after discount ~$50/month, 2nd year and after ~$70/month. However, there are different speeds/data loads options, so monthly fees maybe different accordingly.

In my house, we use 1GB fiber to access the Internet. We had to have it installed when we moved in. Many homes are not eligible for fiber yet. While it is true that dial-up is an old technology and not common in urban places, rural places may still use dial-up if it is their only option. It uses the phone line, so while it is a slow technology, it is also usable in many remote locations. The location of your house can determine what kind of internet connection is available. Internet companies decide whether they will service an area, so while some areas have many options, a number of places only have one option.

@yxaj Thanks for the detailed answer. I was a bit surprised the dial up connection is still available but it's understandable as the US is so huge.. Maybe they can do only text based message or email.

Old technologies can still be useful in certain situations! Older people may also have installed dial-up internet a long time ago and have not had a reason to upgrade. If they don't use the internet much, why pay more? Plus, it can be an intimidating thing to learn a newer technology.
