"Me llamo..." or "Mi nombre es..." both of them are ways to say "My name is...", there's no difference at all in meaning, there are people who like using one over the other one, but that depends on the speaker's preference or the country/regions they're in.
I would say they both are mostly used in presentations like at school or formal presentations, in natural speaking we would just say "Soy..." (I am...).

If you say "Me llamo", you can mention your name, your family names or both. "Me llamo Luis". "Me llamo Gómez". "Me llamo Luis Gómez". "Me llamo Luis Gómez García".
If you want to mention your family names, you can say "De primer apellido me llamo Gómez", "De segundo apellido me llamo García" or "Me llamo Gómez García".
If you say "Mi nombre es", you can only mention your name. "Mi nombre es Luis".
If you want to mention your family names (English style), you have to say "Mi primer apellido es...", "Mi segundo apellido es...", or "Mis apellidos son...".
